PROJECT: CENTRAL SUBSTATION 2
LOCATION: JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
TYPE: NEW CONSTRUCTION
CLIENT: PORT AUTHORITY NY&NJ
TONAB provided architectural services for the design of a new electric substation at JFK Airport. The project was delivered with TONAB as architect-of-record and subconsultant to Syska Hennessy Group, with design-build led by Yonkers General Contracting.
The Substation is designed to house transformers, switchgear, and essential auxiliary support spaces within a resilient and efficient layout. Architecturally, the building envelope incorporates insulated metal panels and complementary metal cladding that align with the design vocabulary of the adjacent building, the New Terminal One, providing visual continuity across the campus. The substation is LEED certified and features a green roof system.
