PROJECT: IS 206X
LOCATION: Bronx, NY
TYPE: Education
CLIENT: NYC School Construction Authority (NYCSCA)

TONAB was tasked with a scope of upgrading IS 206X library serving grades 6-8, The scope called for a full interior renovation to transform the existing space into a modern, multi-functional learning environment. The project also included a full interior demolition of outdated fixtures and finishes and installation of new flooring, ceiling systems, lighting, and acoustic treatments, giving the space an aesthetic consistent with the school’s marine science core curriculum. The space welcomes and invites collaboration and independent learning. The clean lines, natural light from windows, the calming palette enhanced by warm wood finishes and subtle blue tile accents, the library provides a contemporary aesthetic that remains inviting to students. The design allows the space to be flexible and creates a setting for various learning styles, from group projects to quiet reading. The library is future-ready and digitally connected. Ultimately, the upgraded library reflects the school’s commitment to providing students with an inspiring space to learn.
