TONA Design for $13M Lorraine Montenegro Women and Children’s Residence Fulfills Institutional Needs in a Home-like Environment
TONA has completed the newly constructed Lorraine Montenegro Women and Children's Residence, a $13M five-story building in the Bronx offering 38 residential treatment beds and multiple counseling and training services for women with substance use disorders and daycare for their children. The successfully met design goal was to create a space that offers a warm and welcoming home setting while fulfilling all institutional needs including parenting, vocational, and life skills training; primary healthcare; recreational activities; and daycare.
Lorraine Montenegro, a much-heralded member of the community who led United Bronx Parents for 30 years, died in Puerto Rico in the fall of 2017 during a visit following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
