PROJECT: CHALLENGE PREPARATORY CHARTER SCHOOL

This full building renovation adapted a former school and customized it for the proposed charter school. The project includes 14 classrooms, plus specialty classrooms for music, art, and computer learning. The gymnasium was gutted and refitted with new lighting, flooring, and wall finishes. Ceilings throughout the school were removed and replaced with new lighting and ceilings. A full cooking kitchen is included in the basement, which will provide food service for this school, as well as future schools that may have less space.

For the owner, this was the first of several planned charter schools in Far Rockaway. The former parking garage was converted kindergarten classrooms, while the existing courtyard was refreshed as a quiet, contemplative space.
